Corley Ford, a dealership in Grants, New Mexico, deployed ShortLoop’s Phone AI to cover overflow and after-hours calls. The AI answered missed calls and booked service appointments that would have otherwise gone to voicemail.

Within three months, ShortLoop’s AI saved the service team significant call-handling time and increased total repair orders across the store.

The Customer

Corley Ford is a growing dealership serving customers along the I-40 corridor in western New Mexico. Their advisors manage walk-ins, shop coordination, and constant inbound call traffic throughout the day, especially during peak hours when customers call to schedule urgent services or follow up on repairs.

Corley Ford adopted ShortLoop’s Phone AI to ensure no revenue is missed due to capacity issues.

The Situation

Corley’s service advisors faced two operational bottlenecks:

  • Managing walk-ins and phone customers: Advisors assisted customers in-store while calls accumulated or went unanswered.
  • No after-hours capture: Customers calling outside business hours had no way to book service and often called competitors instead.
Stacey Corey, Dealer Principal: We evaluated a number of options before bringing in AI. ShortLoop delivered on what they promised, and the level of customization and support has been amazing.

Missed and abandoned calls represented lost repair orders and underutilized shop capacity. The management team was very cognizant of lost revenue opportunities and wanted a way not to lose high-intent customers.

The Solution

ShortLoop deployed a customized voice AI solution for Corley Ford that understood and followed the dealership workflows. ShortLoop Phone AI, unlike other menu-like AI systems, was conversational and did the following:

  • Answered inbound overflow and after-hours calls
  • Identified service needs (“oil change”, “warning light”, “brakes”, “tires”)
  • Booked service appointments directly
  • Routed urgent calls or frustrated customers to live staff when needed

This deployment required no changes to Corley’s existing workflows and focused solely on capturing previously missed call traffic.

ShortLoop's Impact

Across the first three months after deployment:

Appointment Growth:

  • 240+ appointments booked by AI
  • AI recovered and added 20% of all service appointment volume each month

RO Growth

Significant RO growth in 2024 vs 2025 due to AI

The AI recovered service appointments worth $150K USD from customers calling the store compared to the previous year’s benchmarks. Compared to 2025’s averages, AI led to a ~12% increase in ROs booked.

Advisor Productivity

72 hours of phone workload were eliminated over three months. The advisors were able to redirect their time towards:

  • Managing the service lane and in-store customers
  • Upselling to customers
  • Coordinating and responding to the most demanding customers

Conclusion

ShortLoop enabled Corley Ford to capture customers who were previously lost to voicemail or hold queues, directly increasing repair order volume, service revenue, and staff efficiency.

Many dealerships face similar challenges. Our work at Corley Ford shows how a customized AI solution can significantly increase revenue without any staffing challenges.

Frequently asked questions

How do you credit the increased service revenue to AI?

+

The AI captured calls that previously went unanswered due to advisor overload or after-hours. The AI also booked appointments on the phone, with no human interference. We also measured the number of additional calls captured and compared it with the relative rise in additional appointments, to check if the trend matched.

Can customers tell they are talking to AI?

+

Most callers do not notice they are speaking to AI. Even if they do, customers appreciate getting immediate assistance 24/7 and do not object often. The AI can also tell if the customer is frustrated, and can seamlessly transfer to human staff.

Does the AI follow the dealership’s workflow guidelines? How?

+

Yes. The AI is configured to follow each dealership’s exact appointment rules, scheduling capacity, routing logic, and escalation protocols. Corley’s team had to make no operational changes to get this impact.

What does the typical ROI for ShortLoop AI look like?

+

A dealership usually breaks even with only a few additional service bookings per month. Urban dealerships can expect an ROI of 20x each month. Results scale with call volume and missed-call rates.

Can AI work with centralized BDCs as well?

+

Yes. ShortLoop works with both local service advisors and centralized BDC teams. The AI can work autonomously and also transfer calls to the BDC for customers who would require a human to help them.

My advisors respond to voicemails. Would we still need an AI’s help?

+

Yes. Most lost customers never leave voicemails. Data shows 30-50% callers hang up without leaving one, and many call a competitor before receiving a callback. ShortLoop AI can help book such customers instantly.
